Sunday School meets two Sundays a month, with occasional special events like rehearsals for the Christmas Pageant on other Sundays. There are currently three levels of Sunday School: Ages 4 – Second Grade, Third – Eighth Grade, and High School.
Ages four – Second Grade use a curriculum called Godly Play. Godly Play is a Montessori-based curriculum that engages children in the biblical stories. Each week the children gather for a story and wondering, using materials which act out the biblical narratives. They are then free to engage the materials, do art projects, etc, before coming back together for their Feast (or snack).
The Middle Group are our third through eighth graders. They use a lectionary-based curriculum called Living the Good News, which is based in the lessons that are used in worship each week. The young people in this class may read a lesson, do some related activities, and reflect on the meaning the biblical story has from their perspective. This class also has a year-end trip at the conclusion of the school year. Past trips have included Annapolis and Philadelphia.
The High School Class are our ninth-twelfth graders . This group is engaged in exploring how their faith connects with their everyday lives, using the Episcopal Youth Curriculum as a jumping off point and drawing on resources in Christian practice from the book Way to Live. They also engage in outreach and community service projects at St. George’s and beyond.
Classes meet in classrooms on the downstairs level of St. George’s and begin at 9:00 AM.
