Throughout the month of November we will be holding a warm clothing drive to help the Prince George’s County School System meet the needs of newly arrived immigrant and refugee children who do not have clothing appropriate for our winter weather. You can help by contributing coats and jackets, new or gently used and clean, as well as hats, scarves, and gloves. The students range in age from 5 to 20, so sizes youth small to adult large are all welcome. Donations should be placed in the bin in the narthex. In addition, the school system would welcome Target gift cards which they can use to purchase other items students might need such as boots, socks, and uniforms. Target cards will be available for purchase during coffee hour and may be given to Donna or Randy Haselton or Peggy Alexander. Thank you for helping us support these new Prince George’s County students!
Calling all Parishioners! Please mark your calendars on Saturday, September 17, for the end of summer Church Work Day: Parish Clean-Up. Weather permitting, we’ll be doing work inside and outside the church buildings, starting about 10:00 AM and planning to finish around late afternoon, approximately 3:00 PM. A sign-up sheet for each of the projects is posted on the bulletin board in the narthex, with a large variety of ways to help, ranging from a deep detail clean of the parish kitchen to removal of debris from the parish grounds and parking lot. The Buildings and Grounds Committee hopes you can join us for any part of the day – many hands make lighter work. Thank you for considering helping our efforts to keep the church clean and in good repair.

School started this week and St. George’s annual school supplies drive for for Gaywood Elementary School is winding down, but there’s still time to participate! We’re collecting items for students such as pens, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, highlighters, scissors, composition books, construction paper, glue sticks, graph paper, white board markers and erasers, and Post-Its, as well as printer paper for the teachers, and hand soap, hand sanitizer, and tissues. Donated items should be placed in the red tub in the narthex. Thank you for supporting the students of Gaywood!
Many children get free or reduced cost breakfast and/or lunch at school so when school is out in the summer, the Help by Phone Food Pantry is especially busy. Currently the pantry is in need of a number of food items, including bread, 2 lb bags of rice, spaghetti sauce, chicken soup, cereal (Cheerios are popular!) , and Jello mix. Donations can be left in the blue tub in the narthex. Thank you for helping St George’s to support this important ministry.
On Sunday, June 26, the Outreach and Social Justice Committee is holding a Bread Sunday in support of the food pantry sponsored by Help by Phone. The committee asks that you bring a loaf of bread, or two or three or more, on that Sunday and place it in bins located in the Narthex. If you have any questions, please see either Donna or Randy Haselton. Thank you for your support.
Also, the next Outreach and Social Justice Committee meeting will be Tuesday, July 5, instead of July 4.
February 6 is practically around the corner and St. George‘s needs you to participate in our annual Mardi Gras Party! There are several things you can do to help with this annual St. George’s event. The most important thing to do is to attend the party and silent auction from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Saturday night, February 6, 2016.
The next most important thing is to invite others to come; this is a great event to ask friends, family, or neighbors to attend. Also, and something you can do in conjunction with attending the event, consider donating items for the auction or asking others to donate.
Finally, you can volunteer to help with decorating and set up, clean up, or the auction itself. Helping out is a great way to get involved and enjoy yourself too!
