Help with Flowers next Sunday December 22

We need your help!  Christmas is around the corner and we will start preparing the church on Sunday, December 22 after the 10:00 service.  Assistance is needed with the flowers, especially putting foil on the pots and otherwise making our space festive for Christmas.  If you can offer some time, please plan to stay after the later service or return at approximately 11:30.

Christmas Flowers

Now is the time to consider making a donation for the Christmas flowers. You can thank God for an event or person in your life, or remember someone who has passed away. All memorials and thanksgivings will be listed in the Christmas bulletin. Just complete a “Christmas Flowers” form and put it with your donation in the basket in the hall by Sunday, December 22.If you write a check, please designate in the memo section “Christmas Flowers.”  Names for offerings for flowers can also be submitted to the office via email – office@stgeo.comcastbiz.net.

Blue Christmas Service is Thursday, December 19 at 7:00 pm at Trinity Moravian Church

The longest night of the year comes shortly before Christmas, and for some of us, the holiday season feels like one very long night. We are often told we should feel joyful and happy as we celebrate the holidays, yet some of us have experienced personal losses or have sorrows that make celebrating feel like a chore or otherwise beyond our reach. As an offering of prayer that aims to capture some of those feelings, we are observing a “Blue Christmas” service in partnership with Trinity Moravian Church.  The service will be on Thursday, December 19th at 7:00 pm at Trinity; the address is 7011 Good Luck Rd, New Carrollton. Feel free to invite anyone you know who might appreciate this service; all are welcome.

A New Look at Mary Bible Study Continues.

So, you think you know who Mary, the mother of Jesus, was?  Look again. You will have such an opportunity to explore each of the Scriptural references to Mary with our upcoming Bible Study, “A New Look at Mary,” beginning on November 25.  We will gather at 7:00 pm each Monday evening through the months of December and January and conclude on February 3.  To guide our way, we will draw on the insights of Elizabeth A. Johnson, author of Dangerous Memories: A Mosaic of Mary in Scripture. Johnson is a noted feminist theologian and author of numerous works on the communion of saints.  If you are interested in participating, please contact Terry Doyle or Connie, the co-leaders of the study. Email contact:  TerrenceDoyle@msn.com.

Donate to the Food Pantry

St. George’s supports a food pantry at Trinity Moravian Church in New Carrolton through the county organization Help by Phone. The pantry reports that they especially need boxes of non-fat powdered dry milk; however donations of all kinds are always welcome, including cereal, bread, canned meats and fish, pasta and sauce, peanut butter, jelly, and rice. Thank you for your support of the food pantry.

Summer Study – Fifty Days with Luke starts Tuesday!

This summer’s study on the Gospel of Luke will use the Fifty Days with Luke resource by Forward Movement, which includes a passage of the gospel to read each day, plus a reflection and questions to consider. The study will be Tuesdays from 7:00 – 8:30 pm and begins on Tuesday, June 25; the final meeting is August 13. If you’d like to participate but know you’ll be away during some of the meetings, not to worry – join in when you can and jump back in with the group when you return. There is a sign up on the church bulletin board to indicate your interest. Books are available now-see Connie or Terry Doyle to get one.
