After a break in August, the book club will meet Tuesday Sept 17th. Our September book will be Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water and Loving the Bible Again. Ms. Evans was a popular Christian writer and this book is the last she published before her tragic death this spring at the age of 37. In her works, she drew from her experience growing up in a conservative church and her personal faith journey.
Greenbelt Labor Day Festival
We are looking for volunteers to be at the Greenbelt Labor Day Festival on Saturday, August 31 between 10 AM and 4 PM. It is a great way to reach out to the larger community and let folks know about St. George’s. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board if you’d like to sign up for a shift that Saturday. We could also use help with ideas to decorate our table as the best presented tables win ribbons from the festival committee!
Labor Day Parade
There is another sign-up sheet on the bulletin board to gauge interest in participating in the Labor Day Parade on the morning of Monday September 2. If there’s enough interest we’ll march in the parade as we’ve done in years past, so add your name if you’d like to participate
If you have any questions about Greenbelt Information Day or the Parade you can speak with Ames Perry or Michael Mangiapane.
Throughout August, we will be holding our annual School Supplies Drive for students and teachers at Gaywood Elementary School. As you may know, the list of school supplies that students are expected to provide gets longer each year, yet some families simply do not have the funds to buy these supplies. In addition, tight school budgets mean that many teachers must spend their own money for basic supplies. Each year we collect items for students such as pens, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, highlighters, scissors, composition books, construction paper, glue sticks, graph paper, white board markers and erasers, and backpacks, as well as printer paper for the teachers, and hand soap, hand sanitizer, and tissues for the classrooms. You can find a hand out with the complete list of the needed supplies on the credenza in the narthex.
Donations may be left in the bin in the narthex. Thank you for supporting the students and teachers at Gaywood and for helping us get them off to a great start to the new school year!

All are invited to come to Miller Hall on Friday, August 23 at 7:30 pm for a night of fun and folk music! Julia Jackson will be playing the guitar and singing old folk favorites, and everyone who would like to attend and enjoy (and perhaps sing along) is welcome. This is one of St. George’s summer fellowship events and comes to us via Luella Tabor, who bid on Julia’s music services at the Mardi Gras Silent Auction and wanted to share the event with the congregation. We hope to see you on August 23rd.
