Let’s Show Our Pride – June 8

The afternoon of Saturday, June 8 is the annual Capital Pride Parade and St. George’s is signed up with a spot to walk and ride in the parade. We hope that you will come down to DC and participate with us as we love to show the fun and welcoming spirit of St. George’s to the LGBTQ community in great numbers. Summer Gospel Study – Fifty Days with Luke starting June 25

Would you like to get more familiar with the gospels, learn more about the story of Jesus, and engage in conversation with others about our sacred stories? Then this summer’s study on the Gospel of Luke might be for you. We will use the Fifty Days with Luke resource by Forward Movement, which includes a passage of the gospel to read each day, plus a reflection and questions to consider. The group will gather weekly to reflect together on the previous week’s readings. The study will be Tuesdays from 7:00 – 8:30 pm from June 25 through August 13. If you’d like to participate but know you’ll be away during some of the meetings, not to worry – join in when you can and jump back in with the group when you return.

Post Mission Trip Dinner – July 19

The Youth Group Mission trip June 22-29 to make houses warmer, safer, and drier in Chavies, Kentucky is almost here, which means so is the Post Trip Dinner! At the dinner, the youth group will be reliving their mission trip with you. They will share their photos and stories while providing a dinner of pasta, bread, salad, and dessert (vegan- and gluten-free options will be available). The dinner is Friday, July 19 at 6:30 pm. The suggested donation is $15 and all funds go toward trip costs. Please come out and support the youth group!

Toiletries Needed!

The families we help support through the Gaywood Food Program have many needs which fall outside the scope of the program; in particular, the families often request assistance with toiletries. Over the next 3-4 weeks, we will be collecting these personal items of all kinds, with a special emphasis on toothpaste and shampoo. If you can, please consider picking up some of these items the next time you’re at the store. Thank you for your generosity to the Gaywood students and families.

The Food Pantry is in Serious Need of Cereal and Canned Meats

St. George’s supports a local food pantry run by Help by Phone, hosted at Trinity Moravian Church on Good Luck Road. The pantry is currently critically low on cereal and canned meats, particularly chicken, tuna and salmon. We ask everyone who can to donate these items as we help get the food pantry through this dry time. Many thanks for your support.

Gaywood Career Day

Do you have a job you love? Did you have an interesting career before you retired? Can you spare part of a day to support local students? Gaywood Elementary School is looking for speakers for their annual Career Day. The event will be held on Friday, May 24, from 9:00AM to 12:30PM (speakers are asked to arrive 30 minutes early). Youth Group is Taking Orders for Mother’s Day Flowers

Support the Youth Mission Trip to Chavies, Kentucky to make houses warmer, drier and safer by ordering flowers for Mother’s Day.  Bouquets will be made up of beautiful cherry brandy roses, pink mini carnations, bright green hypericum, and yellow solidago and will come in small, medium, and large bouquets.  The cost is $6 for a small bouquet, $15 for a medium and $25 for a large. The youth who are going on the trip are now taking pre-orders for Mother’s Day May 12.  All proceeds will go to support the trip June 23-29.

Seeking a Parish Administrator, St. George’s, Glenn Dale, MD

St. George’s Episcopal Church is seeking a part-time Office Administrator, 18 hours per week. Responsibilities include preparing bulletins and service booklets, updating website, maintaining church calendar, managing church building use and welcoming persons from all walks of life.  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent skill level preferred, as is knowledge of the Episcopal Church and its liturgy. Strong communication skills, people skills, organizational skills, and a high degree of computer fluency (Microsoft Office Suite, ability to learn parish management system Realm) required.
