You are invited to gather on Thursday, October 4, at 7pm for shared prayer, stillness and group reflection in the church sanctuary. No experience with contemplative prayer is needed for you to attend these facilitated circles. This offering is open to the public.
The annual Blessing of the Animals Service will be held on Sunday, September 30 at the 10:00 am service. Bring your animal friends to church that day and join in the joyful praise of God in all of its sounds and forms. If you prefer an animal free service, plan to attend 8:00 am service where we will enjoy God’s creation more quietly.
Join us as we watch a compelling film about six women who are homeless after life events left them without resources. Their stories change perceptions about who ends up without shelter. This film is riveting and should lead us into a thoughtful discussion following the film. Directed by Michele Ohayon, narrated by Jodie Foster and with an original score by Mellisa Etheridge, the film has won several film festival awards. We’ll have light snacks and beverages to share.
The Rt. Rev. Mariann Budde will be preacher and celebrant on Sunday October 7 at the 8:00 and 10:00 services. The bishop visits each parish every three years, making this a special occasion in the life of the parish. We hope everyone will plan to be present for this festive service and opportunity to interact with Bishop Mariann.
On Monday evenings starting this October, we will be engaging in a study of the gospel of Mark. The book is A Journey with Mark and this is another in the series of Fifty Day Bible Challenges. The idea is to read a passage from Mark each day, plus a brief reflection and questions to consider. Participants gather weekly to reflect together on the gospel message. This study begins on Monday, October 1 and concludes on Monday, November 19 and we meet from 7:00 – 8:30 pm. The books will be available starting Sunday September 23 and the sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board in the hallway. Sign up today!
Our ECQ book selection for September is Peaceful Neighbor: Discovering the Countercultural Mister Rogers by Michael Long. This book explores how the religious beliefs of Fred Rogers were manifest in his work and in his views on important issues of his time. This different approach to a famous man should spark an interesting discussion. Please join us- and plan to join us in October as we read Evicted, by Matthew Desmond.
The visioning team will be giving an update of where we are in the visioning process, to be held this Sunday, September 16, following each service.
