School started this week and St. George’s annual school supplies drive for for Gaywood Elementary School is winding down, but there’s still time to participate! We’re collecting items for students such as pens, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, highlighters, scissors, composition books, construction paper, glue sticks, graph paper, white board markers and erasers, and Post-Its, as well as printer paper for the teachers, and hand soap, hand sanitizer, and tissues. Donated items should be placed in the red tub in the narthex. Thank you for supporting the students of Gaywood!
Starting on Sunday, July 24, members of the St. George’ s Pastoral Care Team will start offering quiet prayer in the Chapel in between services with anyone who would like it. Our pastoral care team is a group of your fellow parishioners who support Connie+ in reaching out to our community. The team includes Josephine Ross, Terry Doyle, Margaret McHale and Mary Frances Bruce. We know that in the bustle of Sunday mornings, sometimes there’s no time for a quiet moment of prayer with someone who can listen. We are blessed to have our historic chapel available to us, a lovely space that invites calm and provides a respite. Each Sunday the chapel will be open from 9:15 AM to 9:45 AM if you wish to talk to a pastoral care team member for support and private prayer. Whether you have a burden you wish to share, or you want prayers for grace and strength, the chapel door will be open and you’ll find a member of the team available. If you just want a prayer and prefer not to discuss your concern that is an option as well.
Many children get free or reduced cost breakfast and/or lunch at school so when school is out in the summer, the Help by Phone Food Pantry is especially busy. Currently the pantry is in need of a number of food items, including bread, 2 lb bags of rice, spaghetti sauce, chicken soup, cereal (Cheerios are popular!) , and Jello mix. Donations can be left in the blue tub in the narthex. Thank you for helping St George’s to support this important ministry.
